One of the reasons for union membership decline, in United States but also in other western countries, is that the unions seem to have lost connections to communities and grassroot participation. Local groups’ organising could help much the labour movement, as part of a wider social movement based on participatory democracy, in a bottom-up new strategy. An example is the AP story below.
